June 5, 2017 Special Presentation Youth Programs in Action with Youth Committee Chair Judy Cochran.
Our Youth programs were on parade today. Judy Cochran, our dynamic Youth Chair arranged a fine display of the programs we support, the end result being an exposé of eight successful young people explaining their experiences.
Adventures in Citizenship is a four-day trip to Ottawa to learn about being a Canadian Ciitizen. Khalil Mulji outlined his experience with his trip to Ottawa to learn more about the wonders of Canadian citizenship and the impact it has had on his life.
RYLA Rotary Youth Leadership Awards is a three-day camp on youth leadership. Khalid Keshavjee and Karim Kurji, two of the youth counsellors, were in attendance. Also present were five of the six students we sponsored: Azra Jeraj, Kenzie Benesh, Hannah Tarasco, Lauren Simpson and Lori Mattei. They all explained the wonders of this program. Some of their experiences included learning about teamwork, communications, creativity, courage, styles of management and the benefit of consultation.
Lori Mattei made a passionate speech about his year away from Italy. Lori leaves in July. During his time with us he has stayed with Val and Don Campbell, Linda and Steve Strang, Marlene and Dan Doherty and now Darren Grierson. Lori ended by saying, "It is not a year in a life for me, but a life in a year."
It was heart-warming and rewarding for us as Rotarians to witness how productive these Youth programs are, and what impactful outcomes they produce. Thank you Rotarians, for the support you give to our club in making these programs happen. A special thanks to Judy, her Youth Committee and the host parents for facilitating these wonderful programs. Remember, your support has a long lasting impact on the lives of our future generation… and that is the beauty of our Rotary Youth Programs.
President Terry thanked the program participants.
