Sept 30/19: At today's meeting Margot was introduced by Steve Strang, her host parent. Margot is 18 years young and gave an excellent and humorous presentation.
Belgium, officially the kingdom of Belgium, is a sovereign state in Western Europe. It is bordered by the Netherlands to the north, Germany to the east, Luxembourg to the southeast, France to the southwest, and the North Sea to the northwest. It has a population of more than 11.4 million. The capital and largest city is Brussels. The colors of the flag are black, gold and red, and are symbolic of the country's coat of arms. Margot thinks the black is for chocolate; the gold for French fries and the red for maybe waffles(?).
Belgium has over 1000 different types of beer, and the drinking age is 16 years old.
Margot is from the Wallonia region, a southern portion of Belgium which is primarily French-speaking. She lives with her mother and sister, and has a brother attending university. She enjoys hiking with her mother, and skiing and sailing with her father. Her hobbies include baking, photography, traveling and camping. She also loves dancing and has attended ballet since grade one.
Her home club comprises 20 members who are very active in the community. She asked us to help make her “dream come true” by showing her our beautiful country.
