Mental Health in Later Life - Retirement, Regrets and Recreation

In today's society, earning a living or pursuing a vocation is a major pre-occupation for most people, especially in times of economic and political uncertainties. Stress is the most common description of compromised mental health with anxiety and depression being common experiences that often get medicated.  In later life, retirement or prospect thereof, bring its own stress, often coupled with regrets (what might have been?) and problems with how to fill the time that went into pursuing a vocation. Worries about physical health that may have been neglected earlier also compromises mental health.  In fact, there is no physical health without mental health and there is no mental health without spiritual health. This presentation will review the four health domains - biological, psychological, social and spiritual - in context of the 3 Rs - Retirement, Regrets and Recreation - in later life.
