In January 2023, Rotary Club of Calgary West offered scholarships to two students through Rise-To-Shine Education Foundation to join the local boarding schools, an invaluable opportunity that will help them concentrate on their studies and inspire their futures.

The Goal is to empower and enable young, bright, needy students in the lake region of Kenya which is greatly affected by the “sex for fish” (food scarcity) scenario. We're active in four counties (Siaya, Kisumu, Migori and Homabay).

Project Objectives: We believe that Education is the most powerful method which can be used to change the world. At the end of the student’s four-year secondary education, they join college or perhaps a university depending on the grades that they have a achieved. After their tertiary education the students regularly have jobs, which means these students can "pay it forward" by sponsoring others into the program. The ripple effect of educating needy students is enormous, their households will not only be better, but the community will be transformed too.
  • The power of education extends beyond the development of skills that we need for economic success.
  • Through education the younger generation in the community learn to strengthen their voices, and hence receive a seat at the major decision-making table.
  • Teen pregnancies and childhood marriages are fewer in educated communities.
  • Educated parents, knowing the importance of education, will ensure, that their children are educated too.
The RCCW scholarship provides each student with the following:
• Tuition fees
• Boarding accommodation
• Books
• Uniform
• Termly school transport and a small pocket money
• Boarding Shopping
