Rotary Club of Calgary West Takes Action During 2026 Highway Cleanup
On a beautiful Saturday morning, members of the Rotary Club of Calgary West once again demonstrated their commitment to community service by participating in our annual Highway Cleanup project.
Under the leadership of David Impey, volunteers gathered to clean our adopted section of highway. Club members worked in teams of three, with each group covering approximately one kilometre of the three-kilometre stretch. While the roadway appeared relatively clean at first glance, volunteers quickly discovered there was still plenty of work to be done.
By the end of the cleanup, the team had collected an impressive 17 bags of garbage, along with several larger items that could not fit into bags and were left roadside for collection. The amount of litter removed serves as a reminder of the positive impact that dedicated volunteers can have on keeping Alberta's highways safe, clean, and welcoming.
Among the more unusual discoveries of the day was a wallet containing identification and valid credit cards. Rather than becoming a roadside mystery, the wallet was turned over to authorities so it could hopefully be returned to its rightful owner.
The cleanup was another successful example of Rotary's commitment to service above self. Beyond the bags of litter collected, the event provided an opportunity for fellowship, teamwork, and stewardship of our local environment.
